Types of Surveys:

Boundary Survey:
A survey, the primary purpose of which is to document the perimeters, or any one of them, of a parcel or tract of land by establishing or reestablishing the corners, monuments, and boundary lines for the purposes of describing the parcel, locating fixed improvements on the parcel, dividing the parcel, or platting.

Topographic Survey:
A survey of selected natural and artificial features of a part of the earth’s surface to determine horizontal and vertical spatial relations.

Control Survey:
A survey which provides horizontal or vertical position data for the support or control of subordinate surveys or for mapping.

Construction Layout Survey:
The measurements made, prior to or while construction is in progress, to control elevation, configuration, and horizontal position and dimensions.

Record Survey:
A survey performed to obtain horizontal and/or vertical dimensional data so that constructed improvements may be located and delineated; also known as an As-Built Survey.

Photogrammetric Survey:
A survey using aerial and terrestrial photographs to obtain reliable spatial information about physical objects and the environment.

Flood Elevation Certificate:
Flood Elevation Certificate is an administrative tool of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to provide elevation information necessary to ensure compliance with community floodplain ordinances, to determine proper insurance rates and to support a request for a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) or Letter of Map Revision based on fill (LOMR-F)

Geodetic Survey:
A survey of a large geographic area of the earth’s surface which takes into account the curvature of the earth and the gravitational forces.
